Advertising works, you know it. You’d advertise too if you could just get the best value for your dollar.
A website that is useful and relevant will always get you the best results naturally, that’s what we call search engine optimisation. But the addition of a simple advertising campaign can make a big difference too. This is part of what we call search engine marketing, or SEM. It helps you get your products and services in front of more people. And better still, search engine marketing helps you target those dollars towards the most interested people – those that are already searching for products or services just like yours.
Customer case study
You may have read about “Refresh Properties” in our search engine optimisation article. They engaged us for combined SEO+SEM campaigns. For their search engine marketing, a monitored Google Adwords campaign was put in place. Our SEM work immediately increased the click-through rate, and because of their site’s relevance, this flowed on to increase their customer inquiries as well.

Where should you put your money
Although Google is the most used search engine, the other major players still have significant market share. Don’t discard Yahoo! and Bing as useful advertising.
Here is a comparison of the popularity of the four major search engines that offer SEM opportunities. Well, it’s really just a top three isn’t it.
What I take from this graph is that advertising with Bing and Yahoo! should be seriously considered too. Their combined market share of nearly 30% cannot be ignored. That’d be like closing your business every day at 3pm instead of 5pm.
And because of their relatively lower popularity of Yahoo! and Bing, you will find that the competition is less fierce (your ad will appear higher than in Google) and the bid costs are generally lower (so your cost per ad is also lower).
Google Adwords = more people will see you.
Yahoo! and Bing = more bang for your buck.
So tell us what you want to achieve with your next marketing campaign. We’re listening.
